Te Kiwa Nui festival

Te Kiwa Nui festival

Porirua came alive over the weekend of August 4-6 with the annual Te Kiwa Nui festival (or Polyfest).

Colour, sound and choreography was on display in an all-day spectacular of performance that celebrates Pacific cultures.

Bishop's Community Development Trust provided essential support to event staff to maximise the event’s success.

Manager, Keryn Martin says this year’s Te Kiwa Nui was a showcase to be proud of and demonstrate the 1000s of hours of preparation that organisers and performers had put in.

"These schools have rehearsed for six months in the lead up to this.

“Their devotion to learning their craft and developing intricate show pieces is clear and a credit to them,” says Keryn.

“These performances are a rich tapestry of costume, music and narrative that is a powerful display of Pacifica culture and belonging.”

In total, 820 young people performed in front of a live audience of 1670 people.
